What a NAICOM licence actually means for you as a policyholder

Every insurer on TIIN is NAICOM-licensed. Here is what that licence covers, and what it does not guarantee.

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is Nigeria’s insurance regulator. A NAICOM licence means an insurer has met minimum capital, governance and conduct requirements to legally underwrite policies in Nigeria.

For you as a policyholder, that licence is a baseline trust signal: it means the company is supervised, subject to regulatory reporting, and operating within a defined legal framework — not an informal or unlicensed scheme.

What it does not mean is that every claim is automatically approved, or that every product from a licensed insurer suits your needs. Licensing is about the insurer’s legitimacy and solvency oversight, not a guarantee on any individual policy outcome — always read your policy’s specific terms.

TIIN only lists insurers verified as NAICOM-licensed during onboarding, which is one of the checks the platform performs before any product goes live.
